Our Ancestral Background

The Nedumchira family is steeped in rich history, tracing its roots back to one of the oldest Knanaya families in India. The earliest Nedumchira(s) were believed to be part of the 72 Jewish-Christian families who migrated to India in AD 345 and settled in the ancient port of Kodungalloor in the state of Kerala. These families came from a long-established Mesopotamian Jewish-Christian community and were led by Thomas Kinayi (Kinan), also known as Kinayi Thomman, which eventually let to the community being knowns as "Knanayaites" or "Southists".

Over the centuries, the Nedumchira family, being part of this endogamous community, has grown and evolved, branching out into eight distinct groups known as Kanjooparambil, Komarthumparambil, Kuttolamadom, Nedumchira, Aravindhassery, Punnaplissery, Karuvallikalam and Maranoor. Today, the present generation of the Nedumchira family has over 400 members, spanning six continents across the globe. The Nedumchira family is proud of its heritage and continues to honor the legacy of its ancestors.

The Vadackakam branch of the Nedumchira family, currently known as Kanjooparambil, traces its origins to Thoma Vadackakam, the eldest son of Thomman Thomman Nedumchira. Thoma and his family resided in a house called Vadackakam, and his descendants came to be known as the Vadackakam branch of the Nedumchira family

The Aravindhassery branch of the Nedumchira family was originated from Thoma Aravindhassery, the eldest son of Uthup Nedumchira. Uthup was the youngest son of Thomman Thomman Nedumchira.Aravindhassery is one of the four sub-branches that originated from the four sons of Uthup Nedumchira

The Punnaplissery branch of the Nedumchira family was originated from Itty Punnaplissery, the second son of Uthup Nedumchira. Uthup was the youngest son of Thomman Thomman Nedumchira. Itty Punnaplissery was one of the four sons of Uthup Nedumchira, from whom the four sub-branches of the family originated.

The Karuvallikulam branch of the Nedumchira family was originated from Mathew Karuvallikulam, the third son of Uthup Nedumchira. Uthup was the youngest son of Thomman Thomman Nedumchira. Mathew Karuvallikulam was one of the four sons of Uthup Nedumchira, from whom the four sub-branches of the family originated

The Maranoor branch of the Nedumchira family was originated from Abraham Maranoor, the fourth son of Uthup Nedumchira. Uthup was the youngest son of Thomman Thomman Nedumchira. Abraham Maranoor was one of the four sons of Uthup Nedumchira, from whom the four sub-branches of the family originated
